Register Your Food Lion MVP Card

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Here is an easy way to help out Hoskins Park every time you shop at Food Lion.  By registering your Food Lion MVP card you can earn money for the ministry.  See the paragraph below that describes the program.

What is LionShop & Share?

LionShop & Share is the easiest, most convenient way to raise money for your local not-for-profit organization. Each time you shop at Food Lion and use your MVP card, a portion of your total grocery purchase will be donated to the school, church or other local not-for-profit organization you have selected. Food Lion knows it is important to be involved in the local communities in which it serves, and Lion Shop & Share is our way of helping you help your community grow and prosper.

Click here to be taken to the registration page.  Once there click on the Select Organization tab and a pop up window will appear (you must have pop offs blockers turned off or you will not see the window) and you will be required to enter your state of NC and your city of Charlotte and then you can choose your organization, just scroll till you see Hoskins Park Ministry.

Choose the ministry as your organization and you will be prompted to enter you 12 digit MVP card number, (make sure you enter all 12 digits, those 2 very small numbers at the beginning and end are part of the string) along with other information.  Submit and you are done.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email Paige

Blessings In The Storm In Need of a Nurse

Monday, February 11th, 2008

We have a pregnant woman who is going to need medical care beyond our current ability to help them. As a result we need a nurse to work with Loretta at Blessings In The Storm.

Could you please email me back if you are a nurse and want to help? Or if you know of a nurse that you think would want to help, I would appreciate it if you would ask them if they are interested and then, if so, have them email me as well.

Thanks everyone! We need you!!

Hoskins Park Ministry to Purchase 17th House

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Hi everyone!

Praise the Lord! Hoskins Park Ministries has just received a generous offer to help us buy the 17th house for our ministry which is located just down the road from the other houses! God continues to grow Hoskins Park ministries (which includes Blessings In The Storm!) and we give Him the glory!

Furthermore, we will be naming this new home “Kurt’s House” in memory of the late Kurt Wiltsey. A man after God’s own heart who always took care of God’s least. This is a way for us to remember God’s servant Kurt and be reminded of God’s compassion and generosity lived out through our friend.

The house still needs a lot of work so please pray for the Lord to raise an additional $15k -$20K for us to do it right. And please pray for the supplies and for the people to do the work to help out in the next couple months. We would like this house up and running this spring.

Also, if you would, please pray or help out yourself, with our committed monthly donors, of any amount. Please?! Even $25 per month makes a big difference while $100 per month (or more) is a huge help to us! We are doing the work we feel God called us to do by taking His people off the street and living with and amongst them. But our overhead goes up as we add people and staff and new houses raise up the bar for us. We really need your help! But don’t give if you feel we are asking for too much. We are just trying to help as many people as we can and, well, as we all know, it takes money. I’m sorry everyone wants your money though! But it takes money to do what we do and that’s just the way it is. So give if you can give cheerfully, forget I asked if you feel we are asking for too much. But we need help to keep growing. And we are getting people off the street permanently.

Oh, and one of the scriptures that drives us and the WAY we do our work is found in the book of Romans. The bible says in Romans 2:4, “Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance?” It is saying that God’s kindness leads to repentance, not His judgment. None of us reading this email likes to be judged. So perhaps we can stop judging the homeless and praising the God who created us for the blessing all of us have to actually have a home to live in ourselves!  We are blessed to be a blessing, is the point! So, let’s keep the blessings flowing!!!

If you feel led to give to HPM, please send checks to:

Hoskins Park Ministries
107 Cromer Street
Charlotte, NC 28208

If you are sending a check on behalf of “Kurt’s House” please indicate that on the check.

Thanks for your support and consideration to further support God’s least.

Blessings in the Storm Prayer Request

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Could you please pray for these woman and children? They need us all right now. You will notice two of the children are unborn.

- Ani , she is due to deliver her child on Feb 12, 2008. The doctor is concerned about the inadequate movement of the baby. Ani has not received any prenatal care so we have no idea of the condition of the child in her mom’s womb. Since the child isn’t really moving there is obvious concern.

- Charlene, for her mental welfare and the concern for the stability and care for her 6 month old baby girl (Trinity).

- New resident, Natanya, who came from an abusive situation. Natanya has an 8 year old daughter(Tajee) and is 2 months pregnant and has been abused while pregnant. As of 10:30 a.m., Natanya was transported to the emergency room. Natanya has severe morning sickness and has a history of having high-risk pregnancies.

Thanks everyone! We praise God for hearing our prayers and for answering them quickly, for HIS glory!

In Him,

- Tom

Life Group Needed for Food Pickups

Friday, February 1st, 2008

The men at Hoskins Park Ministries continue to value the service that all of you have given to them.

Hoskins Park has a need for Life Groups to pick up donated food from Roosters Restaurant at South Park EACH 1st or 3rd Monday.

The Life Group would be responsible for picking up the food between 5-5:30PM and deliver it to Hoskins Park and serve the dinner around 6PM. The food is FREE, but you would still have to furnish utensils and drinks.

Please email Paige Vestal, or call her at 704-400-9755 to reserve your Life Group.

May God Bless.

Please Pray for Hoskins Park and Blessings in the Storm

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

First, thanks for your continued support of Hoskins Park Ministries, which includes Blessings In The Storm! As you probably know, we have grown from 5 houses and 17 men in January, ‘06, to 16 houses (just closed on the 16th house last Friday), 42 men, 11 woman, 12 children, and 3 families (in our rented houses) today. Additionally, we may have our 17th house by the end of February, which would increase the woman and children we take in off the streets. God is at work and God is faithful!

We have also grown our staff from 3 people back in 2006 to 12 today. Our current staff includes the following dedicated and faithful servants; Johnny Allen, Rick Schmitt, Paige Vestal, Edwin Freeman, Darwin Nall, Tony Arzaga, Johnny Banks, , Loretta Caldwell, Tammy Riley, Kalisha MacNorton-Green, Desmonda Sherie Ridgell and myself.

Second, thank you for your constant responses to our request for donations! We send out an email and you respond! When you respond like that it allows us to continue to invest in the participants God sends us while concentrating on the work rather than provision for it. So thank you!

Finally, in that regard, I need your support again. We need prayer!! We are being hit fairly hard individually and collectively by the enemy better known as satan. We realize that what is over our heads is under God’s feet, but nonetheless, the attacks are real and we are feeling them. In that regard, would you consider regularly praying for us in the following areas?

1. Protection of the staff / participants from the enemies attacks. That God puts on our spiritual armor on a daily basis and shields us from the attacks that are coming to us.
2. Unity in the leadership of HPM and Blessings, around Jesus Christ. That we would not create our own obstacles. That we would be unified, understand our roles, and do our best while depending on God to do the supernatural!
3. Holiness in the leadership of HPM and Blessings (including strong conviction where we are off as a team and/or off individually). That we would live holy lives.
4. Clarity / daily direction / long term vision for HPM via the board of directors and staff. God, we want YOUR vision!
5. Provision for our financial needs (we are at nearing $50k monthly overhead, from $20k in ‘06).
6. Salvation for our participants (spiritually and physically).
7. God’s favor on the ministry and all individuals associated with the ministry. That whatever we touch would succeed!
8. Guidance on fund raising. What is our role, what is God’s role in that provision? We need help bringing the ministry to life via newsletters, brochures, the web and other vehicles that allow us to tell His story! But we need help with those areas!
9. Blessings on you for your faithfulness to His call on your life! Seriously, please pray for blessings on YOU, on our behalf.
10. Grace! That grace may abound and that God would expand His Kingdom via HPM!

Thanks everyone! We need you. We need your prayers.

To Christ Be The Glory!

Holiday Thank You From Hoskins Park

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

The Christmas party at Hoskins Park last Tuesday drew over 250 people and the men of HPM and the ladies and children of Blessings in the Storm seemed to really enjoy the evening.

I would like to thank everyone that gave of their time and resources for that event as well as the events that continue at HPM through the holiday season.

Please continue your prayerful support of this wonderful ministry during the holidays and as we start a new year in 2008.

May God Bless you all.
